While working with CAP I was asked to lead the project that involved substantial reconstruction and extensions to a Grade II* listed building in Henley upon Thames. The house had been heavily altered through centuries and neglected for years before our Client purchased it. The Brief was to transform it back to a family home and – wherever practical or possible - adapt it to the requirements of a modern life. The additional challenge was to design a granny annex to the rear that would replace an existing shed like structure.

We carefully assessed the significance of various features and recognized the modern infills that could be demolished to uncover the beauty of medieval timber frame. Our negotiations with Conservation Officer were successful and almost all desired by our Clients solutions were achieved in the way that ensured both the conservation and the sustainable future for this outstanding historic building.

In order to convey our ideas and proposals I prepared some 3d visualizations that showed the “before and after” views and that were very helpful in the process of discussions and negotiations.
