The house at Geraldine Road is a mid terrace, elegant Victorian building that required thorough refurbishment. Our clients also wished to gain additional accommodation. While working with CAP I was asked to lead this project from inception to completion. The house is located in the Conservation Area and extending it had to be carefully thought through to maintain the integrity of the terrace and its composition.

The final scheme comprised of the extensions on 3 levels designed to look in keeping with the style and form of existing buildings. The ground floor extension – since least visible was permitted in a modern, extensively glazed form of a contemporary conservatory, while the first and third floor extensions were designed to match the appearance of the historic building. The project gave me a good opportunity to learn about the techniques of matching, cleaning and replacing brick. It also allowed me to deepen my knowledge of legal matters related to party wall procedures as I prepared a Party Wall Award for the Building Owners.

The works were completed within budget and generally to a very good standard.
