CAP were appointed by the developer to undertake the planning submission for a new development within the conservation area in Wandsworth. On behalf of the practice I designed a complex consisting of 12 apartments with a sports facility on the ground floor and a unique terrace of 9 houses offering between 2 to 5 bedrooms and a new public garden at the heart of the site. The site had a long history of planning refusals.

Our objective was to provide functional, new accommodation and harmonise contemporary forms with the historic context as well as green space around it. The site is a separate entity from surrounding development with a “backland” quality. The general consensus was that an independent style, responding to context was more appropriate than the analogy to any specific historical style.
